The Aeroflot Russian Airlines was founded in 9 February 1923 and commenced operations in 15 July 1923. Aeroflot translated in English means “air fleet”. It is the flag carrier and the largest airline of the Russian Federation. The fleet size is 153 planes and reaches 129 destinations worldwide, its hub being Sheremetyevo International Airport. In the Soviet era it was the largest airline in the world. As of September 2013, the Aeroflot Group had 30,328 employees. Aeroflot also performed other functions, including aeromedical, crop-dusting, heavy lifting for the Soviet Space Agency and offshore oil platform support.
