Mission Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities.
Overview Since our founding in 1906 at Cornell University, Alpha Phi Alpha has helped support, encourage, and inspire the college aspirations of young men of color. Alpha Phi Alpha is the first intercollegiate and alumni African American organization of its kind and most recently we saw the culmination of sixteen years of work with the opening of the Martin Luther King Memorial, debuted in 2011 in honor of our most prominent member. Prominent members also include Thurgood Marshall, Cornell West, Paul Robeson, Adam Clayton Powell, and Jesse Owens.

Founded on January 1st, 1976, the Mu Theta Lambda Chapter continues to contribute to this effort through mentorship, teaching, and leadership in our community. We serve the community through the enactment of our three national initiatives: Go to High School – Go to College; A Hopeless People is A Vote less People; and Project Alpha. Our Project Alpha initiative occurs at Textron Academy and provides a forum for young multicultural boys to learn about sexual responsibility and guides them through important life decisions. Our chapter also supports numerous cultural, educational and civic programs each year throughout the Greater Providence area.
