|About||Shabby Vintique is a family run business making and selling booties, clothing and accessories. All our stock is vintage/shabby chic inspired and we are proud to support local craft markets and we regularly attend.|
As a doting mother of two, and wanting to remember every precious moment, I am an avid occasion card collector. We have scrap book upon scrap book full……and year after year, the same mass produced cards graced the pages. I decided that making cards for my family and friends was the way forward, and how hard could it be? And it would save money too……right?
The £200 easily spent on my first trip to buy ‘stuff’ changed my mind. My card stash developed from then and I began making cards in my free time.
Pretty soon my mum Dawn wanted to make a card for her friend, and like me, she became hooked too. We would make glitter, glue, butterfly mess……and I would clean it all away but the results were beautiful and before long we had so many cards made we didn’t know what to do with them all.
I heard from a friend about a craft fair in Uppermill, and I decided to book a stall and see if they would sell. In the meantime my Grandmother Phyllis (78) had taken knitting back up and she had produced a great selection of booties which we took along to the craft fair and sold!
We re-booked for the following month and I focused on making baby cards and mum did some crocheted blankets….the day came, and all sold again! We were asked for other items, from cardigans to men’s socks for fishing!
I always wanted to work for myself and therefore the idea was born, I wanted a baby boutique. As with all business ideas, there is fear and trepidation, but I gave up my job as a Midwife at UHSM and on the 2nd February 2015 we became a registered business!
We opened our shop, Shabby Vintique on Ripponden Road, Oldham on the 3rd May 2015 with a Cava & Cupcake Party and we have not looked back. We still knit, crochet and card make, and though we do now have our Knitting Nanna's (and a grandpa) who do some work for us as keeping up with demand is a lot more difficult without them! We also have the services of dressmaker Sophie (LITTLE DOT) who makes the clothes we design! They are also able to make to order from the customer’s specification and alter/customise clothing bought from us. We hold baby showers with a gift list, make up gift baskets and do payment plans and a Christmas club!
This service, along with the range of Spanish Children’s Wear and Shoe’s has seen our popularity grow within the local community and in the travelling community also. We have customers such as Miss UK Dream, and The Face of Ireland!
