Harsh Words Hurt LivesSociety — Non-profit organization
The message is simple:
Think before you speak.
The mission of Harsh Words Hurt Lives is to put an end to the often-ignored homophobia of today's youth culture by discouraging use of words like "gay" and "queer" as insults.
The mission of Harsh Words Hurt Lives is to put an end to the often-ignored homophobia inherent in the vernacular of today's youth culture by discouraging the use of the words "gay", "dyke", "fag", "queer" and the like as derogatory expressions one individual at a time.
HWHL is a baby step toward a bright future. When words like "gay" are used as insults, they not only hurt the feelings of the people being addressed, but also the feelings of LGBTQ individuals.
By adding this page, by trying your hardest to eliminate certain pejoratives from your vocabulary, and by encouraging others to do the same, you CAN make a difference in people's lives.
|Overview||The goal of this movement is to achieve a time when the word "gay" is never again used as a synonym for "stupid", and no child is ever again mocked by being called a "dyke"|
