Doors Open HamiltonSociety — Community
Doors Open Hamilton 2016 - Saturday May 7 & Sunday May 8.
Organized by the Hamilton Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario.
Doors Open Hamilton event takes place, annually, on the first full weekend in May each year in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The first event took place in 2003.
Doors Open Hamilton is organized by a small group of volunteers representing the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario - Hamilton Region Branch.
The Doors Open program seeks to celebrate, educate and inform citizens and visitors to the community of the importance of the architectural, cultural and historical sites in Hamilton by allowing visitors free access to properties that are either not usually open to the public, or would normally charge an entrance fee.
This is a juried event. Expressions of interest are encouraged from sites across the City of Hamilton both urban and rural.
Visitor experience is key to the success and management of the event. The organizing committee strives to create geographic clusters of sites and encourages new site application.
Since beginning in Hamilton in 2003, under the leadership of Donna Reid, the Doors Open Hamilton event has registered over 170,000 site visits to over 80 Hamilton landmark buildings and sites.
