Born in Otranto (Salento, Italy) on 10/15/1982, Matteo began to play classical piano at the age of 8, guitar at 12 and electric bass at 13 before starting to play double bass.
He moved to Milan at 17 where he studied at I.U.L.M. University for 5 years getting a degree in Tourism. During his “economy years” in Milan, he studied with Massimo Moriconi, Paolino Dalla Porta and Attilio Zanchi.
In September 2005 he moved to Paris, attending several schools and studying with Emil Spanyi, Jacques Vidal, Pierre Bertrand, Malo Vallois. In June 2011 he earned his Master degree in Jazz at National Conservatory (CNSMDP), under the watchful eyes of Riccardo Del Fra, Dré Pallemaerts, François Theberge, Glenn Ferris, Hervé Sellin and Patrick Moutal.
Matteo’s musical education is punctuated by some student awards, most notably, two scholarships endowed by SIENA JAZZ (2007 and 2008), the second allowing him to represent Italy at the 19th Edition of the IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz) in 2009, led by Dave Liebman.
He won the 1st prize at REZZO competition (Jazz in Vienne 2008) and "Trophées du Sunside" (Paris) with the band OXYD.
He also won the BEST BAND prize at Fara Music competition (Fara Sabina, Rome 2009) with his own band TRAVELERS.
Matteo has toured around Europe and North America with a wide range of artists. A few of the festivals and music clubs that he has performed in are April Jazz Espoo (Finland), Jazz à Couches, Jazz à Vienne, Orleans Jazz, Rhino Jazz, Calvi Jazz, Vaulx en Velin (France), Outonalidades (Portugal), Malta Jazz Festival, Sunside, Duc des Lombards (Paris), Fat cat, Shrine (New York), Jamboree (Barcelona), AMR (Geneve), Jazz Station, Sounds (Brussels).
Among his latest collaborations, Matteo played with Antonio Faraò, Sofia Ribeiro, Anne Ducros, Antonin Tri Hoang, Alessandro Lanzoni, Enrico Morello, Anne Paceo, Marc Copland, Mauro Negri, Bebo Ferra, Tino Tracanna, Javier Girotto, Tigran Hamasyan, Laurent Coq, Ben Wendel.
