Overview A little bit of what I've learned...

The Goth Subculture as it is known today began as an offshoot of punk rock that mixed a flair for the theatrical and a fondness of campy horror movies. The current dark flowering of Goth is generally considered to have started when Bauhaus released "Bela Lugosi's Dead" in 1979. In 1982, the Batcave opened in London, giving the self-styled creatures of the night a place to be and be seen. The Batcave attracted a fair a amount of attention from the media, spreading the seeds of the Goth subculture across the U.K. At the same time in the U.S., the deathrock scene was clawing its way out of graveyard with its own horror-laced take on punk.

Goths are free thinkers, people who do not accept the moral rules of society because they're told 'This is just how it is' or 'This is what God says!'. Rather Goths tend to listen to what you have to say, and make up their own mind. This kind of free thinking and rejection of dogma earns only rejection in todays society. However because of this rejection from 'normal' society, Goths have banded together to associate with other free thinkers. This has a beneficial effect on both the individual and society as a whole. For the individual they have a sense of belonging, and friends they can associate with. For society it removes one more misfit filled with rage from society's streets, which is just wrong. This of course is not the case for all Goths. Many Goths today are Goths for a variety of other reasons. They like the music and the clothing mostly (This is what Goth is mainly).
Also as and other person, Gothly Rockers love all kinds of things such as history, TV, hanging out with fellow Goth friends, or they just like staying up late nights reading a good Vampire/Horror book or watching Tim Burton/Horror films.

Goths are always being called Evil, Mean, Devil Worshippers, etc. We want people to see that we are not evil. WE JUST ENJOY THE MUSIC AND THE FASHION THAT COMES WITH IT !
So just remeber non-Goth readers, Goth isn't about anything else apart from the music, the fashion and sometimes some of us enjoy some ooky spooky things.

Thank you for taking your time to read this and enjoy.
