About The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping stray, injured and abused cats and dogs.
Description At LAWS, each animal is treated like a member of the family. We get to know their needs and personalities, and can help you choose the one that will be a good fit for you. With their health and wellbeing in mind, our animals are spayed/neutered, socialized, and have had their shots - all included in one reasonable adoption fee.
Mission We are a "no-kill" shelter and work very hard at finding homes for even the most difficult to place animals. We do not believe that euthanasia is an acceptable method of population control but that spay and neuter is the only humane way to combat the problem.
Overview Established in 1992 by a group of five women with a goal of rescuing stray, injured and abused animals in the Lakefield area, LAWS has grown into a dynamic and respected organization with members and supporters from around Peterborough County and beyond. Each year LAWS helps hundreds of cats and dogs find loving forever homes. Run strictly on donations, memberships and adoption fees, we do not benefit from any outside government or private sector funding. You can help by: adopting a cat or dog from LAWS, volunteering, donating money or supplies, fostering animals in your home, buying a membership, or supporting our fundraising efforts.
